From the Director...
Welcome to our 23rd Season!
It is with heartfelt gratitude that I thank each and every person who has supported our historic theatre throughout the years and also to the new members of our CVP family. The hopes and dreams of our Playhouse Team could never have been achieved without each and every gift, whether it be time, talent or financial contributions. The summer renovation project was a true “team in action” project. A very special thank you to the City of Cocoa Council Members, Administrative and Staff. From my heart, I thank our Board of Directors who believe in our mission and support it in every way they possible can. To our team of designers and dedicated workers, I will be forever grateful for all you have given. The auditorium is truly now “World Class” in it’s interior design. Our orchestra pit is finally large enough for our musicians to perform in comfort. The auditorium seats are custom designed and built just for our audience viewers to enjoy.
Tony Macaulay has given our theatre an opportunity which NEVER is made available to a community theatre! We thank him for believing in us and we encourage you to see “Build Me Up Buttercup...The Musical” BEFORE it lights up Broadway! There is phenomenal interest from both international and Broadway producers in this musical. This is just the beginning of the success that Tony Macaulay will have with this production. You will leave our theatre enjoying every moment of his script and music and knowing that you saw it first! We are so grateful to Tony Macaulay for giving J. Thomas Black, Jr. the opportunity to arrange the orchestration for his beautiful music.
If you think that you might enjoy performing, please join us for auditions. Each show requires many different performers.
Another exciting new experience is our “Live-In Theatre: The Ryan Case”, written and directed by Drama Desk Award nominee Carlo D’Amore, “The Ryan Case” is a historic case of unsolved murder on the streets of New York, that has found its way to Cocoa Village. This is a murder mystery “whodunit” walking tour in Historic Cocoa Village featuring our live performers. More information regarding dates and auditions will soon be available.
We will be presenting another Summer Musical Theatre Project next summer, 2013, in partnership with the King Center for the Performing Arts. More information will be announced in January.
Our “Aladdin Society” will be hosting eight different Epicurean Delights Dinners, as well as, founding a new group called “The Magical Genies”. This group is for those who enjoy volunteering for the Playhouse in an active manner. Please contact Kathi Schillo at aladdinsocietychair@gmail.com for more information. We are committed to bringing you the very best productions possible on our stage. We will continue to strive to secure the success of our historic theatre as we move into the future. We hope you will join us as we present our 23rd Season..
From my heart,
Dr. Anastacia Hawkins-Smith
